I started cross stitching about 10 years ago after reading some cozy mysteries that centered around a craft store. I wish I could remember the name of the series. The books made cross stitching seem comforting somehow. And I have to say, that is what it’s like for me. I can put on a mindless tv show or listen to an audiobook, pick up the needle and pass some much needed time focusing on small x’s instead of all of the other things happening in the world.
I started out with small patterns thinking I would be able to turn cross stitch into a side hustle. But after stitching a few, I realized that I’d never recoup enough for the time it took. Also, I enjoy stitching for the sake of stitching. I didn’t want it to feel like something I had to do. So I transitioned to big pieces. One’s that take years to finish (for me anyway).
My current project is 404,000 stitches. That’s about 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall.
I found a site called Heaven and Earth Designs which specializes in full coverage cross stitch pieces and I’ve never looked back!
I started my current project on Mar 1, 2022 and I’m about 60% done. I’m not sharing images of that yet because it’s a surprise for my husband and if he ever sees this I don’t want to give it away.
